Kenya is a producer of one of the best coffees from Africa. The high location of the plantations (1500-2100 meters above sea level) and the selective hand-picked harvesting of only completely ripe coffee beans results in the highest quality beans. Harvesting takes place twice a year and only the most ripe fruit is picked, and the same trees are returned to many times during a single season. The importance of coffee production to Kenya is evidenced by the fact that destroying or arbitrarily grubbing up coffee trees is considered a crime. The quality of the coffee can satisfy the most sophisticated tastes among experts and tasters and is considered by many to be world class. The delicate balance of acidity and strength, as well as the fruity aroma, makes connoisseurs count Kenyan coffee among their favorites. The AA designation indicates a leading Kenyan coffee with large beans.
