The name bergamot was introduced by the Turks to describe the fruit of the Princely Pear, grown in the Mediterranean zone, similar in shape to citrus fruit, having a thick, fleshy skin. It is from this skin that the aromatic oil added to Earl Grey teas, among others, is pressed.
