Oolong teas

Among the many types of tea, it is worth stopping at this one - oolong tea. Specific seasons for harvesting the leaves, a five-step production process and the nickname "fat killer" all make it a unique specimen. And where does it come from? The first seedlings appeared in China's southeastern Fujian province. Today, thanks to fertile soils and a favorable climate, the best quality oolong tea is sourced from Taiwan and China. The brewing process for this brew is not strictly defined. The best way to adjust the intensity of the flavor would be to pour water over the leaves at about 90 degrees Celsius and brew the tea between 2 and 4 minutes. The fact that oolong tea likes higher temperatures is a big help - the leaves are best poured with water at about 90 degrees Celsius. Over the years, not only the process of brewing tea has changed, but also its names. Nowadays, you can encounter many terms for this brew: ulung, wulong and even Black Dragon.

Oolong tea's unique production process

Whatever you call this tea, however, the most important issue is the production process. This is the decisive moment when it turns out how the final taste will be. Interestingly - the method that is used for drying Oolong leaves is very different from other teas. While it may seem that young tea leaves are the tastiest and richest in health properties, in the case of Black Dragon, however, larger and older - even slightly withered - leaves are best. The picked leaves are put into wicker baskets, then shaken so that they rub against the edges of the container. This is done to damage the nerves that contribute to the release of juices, which is crucial in the oxidation process. A distinctive feature of Oolong tea is the twisted leaves, which can make them appear smaller. However, it is just one teaspoon (5g) that is enough to feel the excellent aroma and floral flavor of the brew. After drying, the dark edges of oolong tea leaves resemble the appearance of black tea leaves, while the center still retains a delicate green color.

Oolong tea flavor

Oolong tea is still a mystery to many. While savoring it, one can sense many flavors, often extreme from each other: grassy, nutty or floral notes, often transforming into caramel sweetness. A delicate nutty aroma is perceptible during brewing.

Oolong - interesting properties

It's not without reason that tea is said to be the nectar of the world. Most teas have positive effects on the body, many reduce stress and some even reduce the risk of disease. Oolong tea is no different from other, more well-known types. Oolong supports the circulatory system, is a treasure trove of vitamins and antioxidants, but its most important properties are regulating the bacterial flora in the large intestine, benefiting heart problems and helping fight type two diabetes. Oolong tea has been dubbed a fat killer - it promotes proper metabolism and improves digestion.

Oolong tea - price

The price of the tea varies between $16.95 and $79.00 per hundred grams (about 20 cups of tea). A big influence on the price is the origin and additives found in the bags. In stationary and online stores we have 10 types of Black Dragon: starting from the legendary Black Oolong, through tea with additives of mango, lemon, jasmine, strawberry and many others, to tasting sets consisting of five selected types of oolong teas.
