Japanese Matcha is often called "the best of the best." This aromatic and sweet infusion is gaining popularity in Poland, too. Curious about the secrets of this magically green powder and the preparation process?
Green teas from Japan have enjoyed immense global recognition for centuries. Matcha is no exception. Its color and consistency, as well as its velvety flavor, distinguish it from other teas. Beyond its rich flavor, this tea powder also boasts countless health-promoting properties, a wealth of vitamins and minerals, including the highest antioxidant content of all green teas. Its uniqueness stems from the special cultivation of the tea bushes and the preparation process.
The process begins on the plantations, where the bushes are covered with special bamboo mats. Only the youngest and highest-quality leaves are harvested, then stripped of their main and lateral veins, leaving only the so-called tencha—the most delicate part of the soft leaf. These leaves are then subjected to a time-consuming grinding process on traditional granite slabs, resulting in an exceptionally smooth, intensely green powder. The most renowned matcha producers also ensure that the leaves are hermetically packed immediately after grinding and shipped by air to various regions of the world.

A unique ritual
Its unique, powdery consistency is irresistible. To fully utilize matcha's potential, it must be prepared properly. The ceremonial process of brewing matcha is called chanoyu, and requires four elements: a matchawan bowl, a chasen brush/whisk, a chashaku spoon, and a strainer. The ritual begins by heating the bowl by pouring boiling water into it. Then, the chasen brush is dipped in hot water to soften it. After pouring out the water from the matchawan, measure two teaspoons of matcha and pour them through the strainer into the vessel. Pour 60 ml of 80°C water over the entire contents and whisk vigorously with the chasen brush, making M-shaped movements. After 30 seconds, a froth will appear on top of the matcha—a sign that the aromatic infusion is ready to drink. All that's left to do is enjoy the unique, sweet taste that's unique to Matcha.
